Suarez returns as Umtiti is set to miss six weeks, After being named in Barcelona‘s team for their LaLiga meeting with Valencia, Luis Suarez is in line to make his return from injury, but Samuel Umtiti is set for a spell on the sidelines.
LaLiga Champions Barcelona faces the team that beat them at last term’s Copa del Rey final at Camp Nou on Saturday after claiming just four points from their three-league opening fixtures.
Suarez started in Barca’s opening outing against Athletic Bilbao only to be forced off with a calf injury after 37 minutes.
Since then, the striker has been absent, missing a win over Real Betis and a 2-2 draw before the international break with Osasuna.
But in his news conference on Friday, Barca boss Ernesto Valverde stated that Suarez would return to the team and that the 32-year-old was included in the official list of Barca.
While the return of Suarez will come as a boost, at the other end of the pitch, Barca was dealt a blow. As France’s defender, Umtiti suffered a metatarsal injury on international duty, and although the initial tests indicated that the issue was not serious, Barca has now confirmed that the centre-back will be out for up to six weeks.
Barca will also remain without captain Lionel Messi, who is also likely to miss Tuesday’s Champions League journey to Borussia Dortmund owing to an ongoing issue of the calf, as well as Ousmane Dembele, who has a hamstring issue.
